Best VPN for CapCut When the Editing App Is Blocked Abroad
For a traveler whose CapCut stops loading abroad, I'd pick Surfshark, the cheapest of the three at £26.28 for a year on its 12-month plan. It suits anyone editing on more than one device, because it puts no cap on simultaneous connections.
| Provider | Price a month, 12-month plan | Latency | Speed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Express VPN | £3.99 | 28 ms | 98 Mbps |
| NordVPN | £4.09 | 20.79 ms | 96 Mbps |
| Surfshark | £2.19 | 23 ms | 96 Mbps |
Prices and speeds in the table come from The VPN Advisor's own comparison data, checked between September 2026 and October 2026.
CapCut's US blackout lasted two days
Owned by TikTok's Chinese parent ByteDance, CapCut went dark for US users over the weekend of 18 and 19 January 2025, just before the federal ban-or-sale law took effect. The Supreme Court had upheld that law unanimously on 17 January. The app came back on Tuesday 21 January with the words "CapCut is back in the U.S." on screen. That afternoon the app was still missing from Apple's and Google's US stores.
Apple told US users that an installed copy would stay on the phone, though a deleted one couldn't be downloaded again or restored to a new device. No updates would arrive either. A visitor holding a non-US Apple account couldn't download or update ByteDance apps while inside the US either, and got access back after leaving.
India's CapCut ban has held since 2020
In 2020 CapCut disappeared from Apple's and Google's app stores in India, one of many Chinese apps removed that year. India blocked it again alongside TikTok when that ban became permanent in January 2021. As of September 2026 it was still missing from the Indian Play Store. Jio, Airtel, BSNL and Vi block CapCut's servers, so the app shows network errors on a working connection.
A troubleshooting guide lists Russia, Afghanistan, Iran and Indonesia alongside India as places where CapCut can't be downloaded. Open it in a restricted country and it shows a message saying there is no internet connection.
A VPN changes the region CapCut sees
A VPN changes which region CapCut's servers think you're in, but it leaves the app's licensing and availability terms as they were. Windscribe says using one with CapCut is legal in most places, as long as you follow CapCut's terms and the local law. In India, where a VPN itself is legal, using CapCut through one sits in a grey area, though one guide found no reported case of a user being penalized.
CapCut's filters and templates differ by location, so a different server region shows a different set. Basic timeline editing of clips on your device works without a VPN, and only the server-based features need one. A CapCut account first opened in a blocked region may stay tied to it, so a VPN on its own won't always clear the error. With the VPN running, Appuals recommends a server in the US, the UK or Singapore and a brand-new CapCut account.
Server choice fixes most CapCut errors
Windscribe warns that CapCut blocks some VPN IP addresses. Switching server or protocol usually gets past the block, it says. VPN Super's support team says its Netherlands and Germany servers give the steadiest CapCut logins and exports. It names IKEv2 as its most reliable protocol for the app, with OpenVPN as the fallback. VPN Super says a no-internet error with the VPN on usually comes from one server failing with CapCut, with the tunnel itself still up. Connect the VPN before you open CapCut rather than after. Moving from Wi-Fi to mobile data, or to another network, sometimes brings a blocked connection back.
Appuals lists a corrupted cache, misconfigured app data and an old app version as other causes of the same error. Some networks in heavily restricted regions run systems to spot VPN traffic, so VPN Super can't promise a stable connection there.
Surfshark costs least for a year
A year of NordVPN costs £22.80 more than a year of Surfshark on their 12-month plans. Surfshark also blocks ads and trackers. Its multi-hop option routes traffic through two servers. All three offer split tunneling, so CapCut can use the VPN while other apps stay on your normal connection. NordVPN has no ad and tracker blocker. Express VPN leaves out multi-hop.
Proton VPN's free tier carries no data limit, according to a guide to CapCut in India. Its free servers include the Netherlands, Japan and the USA, all of which that guide says work for CapCut. The same guide finds free servers congested between 8pm and 11pm IST and points heavy CapCut users to paid ones.
Surfshark for most travelers, NordVPN for the lowest lag
Choose Surfshark if you edit on several devices and want the smaller bill, since it costs the least of the three for a year and blocks ads and trackers as well. Unlike NordVPN's, its apps aren't open source.
Pick NordVPN if lag breaks your exports, since its latency comes in lowest of the three. In our NordVPN vs Surfshark comparison it costs more and comes without an ad blocker.
Express VPN serves a reader who wants the fastest download speed here, though it lacks multi-hop and costs more than Surfshark.
