Surfshark Review

Surfshark is a lower-priced VPN with unlimited device connections and a no-logs policy verified twice by Deloitte. It suits households with many devices.

Surfshark is the obvious pick for households and heavy multi-device users who don't want to ration connections. It also suits price-sensitive shoppers who want a credibly audited no-logs policy without paying NordVPN or ExpressVPN prices. There are two catches.

The brand has the same parent company as NordVPN. The cheapest entry pricing also lasts only one term. The headline feature is unlimited simultaneous connections on a single subscription.

Few mainstream providers offer this. For households, or for anyone running a VPN on phones, laptops, TVs and a router at the same time, one subscription can cover every device. Deloitte has independently verified the no-logs policy twice under the ISAE 3000 standard, in January 2023 and June 2025.

Its auditors inspected server configuration, deployment processes and the Software Defined Network components. Cure53 audited the browser extensions in November 2018 and the full server infrastructure in April 2021. It rated overall security as solid.

Performance is competitive but not class-leading. Independent reviewers recorded 752 Mbps on a Seattle server and 556 Mbps on a UK server from a 1 Gbps base connection. They also saw reliable unblocking across 16-plus Netflix regional libraries.

The patented Nexus infrastructure, built on Software Defined Networking, supports features rivals don't offer. IP Rotator cycles your IP every 5 to 10 minutes inside a chosen region. Multi-IP assigns a different IP per session and is rolling out first on macOS from November 2025.

Surfshark is headquartered in the Netherlands, which has no mandatory VPN data-retention rules. It is a founding member of the VPN Trust Initiative and was awarded the initiative's Trust Seal in September 2023. Renewal pricing climbs steeply.

The 2-year Starter plan that begins at $1.99 per month typically renews at around $4.98 per month. The One and One+ plans roughly double or triple. Streaming is less consistent than with top-tier rivals.

Reddit threads from early 2025 documented widespread Netflix blocking on Fire TV Stick devices. Users got around it by switching to specific country servers or changing protocols. Since the February 2022 merger with Nord Security, Surfshark and NordVPN share a parent.

That raises consolidation concerns even though the infrastructure stays separate. The apps are also not open source, so independent code review is harder than with Mullvad or ProtonVPN. Choose Surfshark if device count matters and you want a credibly audited VPN at the lower end of the pricing curve.

If you care most about open-source clients or the largest server network, ProtonVPN or NordVPN are stronger choices.
