VPN Simultaneous Connections: How Many Devices Each Allows

Surfshark lets you connect unlimited devices at once for £2.49 a month on its 12-month plan, the lowest price of the nine VPNs The VPN Advisor prices that way. A big family can put every device on one account for £29.88 a year.

Provider Devices at once Price a month, 12-month plan A year on that plan
Surfshark Unlimited £2.49 £29.88
Private Internet Access Unlimited £2.99 £35.88
IPVanish Unlimited £3.40 £40.80
ProtonVPN 10 £3.59 £43.08
Express VPN 10 £3.99 £47.88
NordVPN 10 £4.09 £49.08
Hide.me 10 £4.23 £50.76

Mullvad costs the most of the nine at £4.24 a month on its 12-month plan, £21.00 a year more than Surfshark. The VPN Advisor's own comparison data supplies the device counts and prices in the table and the speed figures below, most recently checked in October 2026.

Device caps run from one to unlimited

CyberGhost stops at seven devices. Mullvad and IVPN each allow five at once. Wired's review says ProtonVPN's free plan allows a single connection at a time. Express VPN's count also climbs with its tier, and Gizmodo puts it at 12 on Advanced and 14 on Express Pro. CyberGhost sells no 12-month plan at all, only terms of 1 month, 6 months and 2 years plus 2 months. On that 1-month plan it costs £10.89 for each month.

PCMag says Surfshark deletes connection timestamps 15 minutes after a session ends, a step it calls standard for VPNs with unlimited connections, to stop abuse.

eSecurityPlanet says NordVPN on a compatible router takes one device slot while covering everything connected to it, a point CNET makes for any capped VPN.

Network size and ratings by provider

Private Internet Access lists 35,000 servers in 104 countries, ProtonVPN 20,799 in 149 countries and CyberGhost 9,500 in 100 countries. NordVPN runs 7,100 servers in 150 countries, against Surfshark's 4,500 servers in 100 countries. IPVanish has 3,400 servers in 55 countries and Hide.me 2,600 in 57. Mullvad's 566 servers cover 50 countries, and IVPN's 89 servers cover 41.

The VPN Advisor rates Express VPN 4.5 stars and Hide.me 4.2. Private Internet Access, Mullvad and IVPN hold 4.1, with ProtonVPN and CyberGhost at 4.

Trials, refunds and renewals

Surfshark's 7-day free trial covers up to three devices, eSecurityPlanet reports. Once the trial ends, Surfshark's own support page says the device limit lifts to unlimited, with a 30-day money-back guarantee on top. ProtonVPN keeps a permanently free tier without a data cap, throttling or ads. Wired's review adds that the free plan picks your server location for you.

Gizmodo puts the renewal for IPVanish's one-year Essential plan at $89.99 a year, and for its two-year plan at $179.98 every two years. Express VPN's Basic renewal comes to $99.95 a year by Gizmodo's figures, rising to $119.95 a year on Advanced and $199.95 a year on Express Pro.

PCMag lists Surfshark's Starter plan at $15.45 a month on monthly billing. On the annual plan it comes to $3.19 a month, or $47.85 for 15 months, and over two years to $1.99 a month, or $53.73 for 27 months.

Dedicated IPs cost extra, safety features do not

Of the ten VPNs here, only Hide.me includes a fixed IP address in its basic paid plan, listed under hide.me Premium. Surfshark sells a dedicated IP for an extra $3.75 a month on any plan, PCMag reports.

All ten pair a kill switch with split tunneling and independent audits. Multi-hop is missing only from Express VPN and CyberGhost.

Speeds and streaming stay close

Express VPN reached 98 Mbps in The VPN Advisor's speed tests, Hide.me 97, and NordVPN and Private Internet Access 96. Surfshark and IPVanish both reached 96 Mbps too. CyberGhost and IVPN reached 95, Mullvad 94 and ProtonVPN 88.

IPVanish showed 10.24 ms of latency, IVPN 14.5 ms, NordVPN 15.19 ms and Hide.me 15.3 ms. Express VPN came in at 24 ms, with CyberGhost, Mullvad and ProtonVPN at 32 ms, 33 ms and 47 ms.

Netflix, BBC iPlayer, Hulu, Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video work with NordVPN, Surfshark, CyberGhost, Private Internet Access, IPVanish and Hide.me. Express VPN and ProtonVPN add Apple TV to that list. The VPN Advisor lists no streaming services for Mullvad or IVPN.

Surfshark for a full house, Hide.me for a fixed IP

Choose Surfshark if your household runs more devices than you can count, since it sets no cap and costs the least each month. Its 31 ms latency is higher than the 22 ms Private Internet Access showed.

Private Internet Access suits a family that wants no cap with that quicker response, for a little more a month than Surfshark. IPVanish answers quicker than Surfshark or Private Internet Access with no cap either, though The VPN Advisor rates it 4.2 stars to Surfshark's 4.5.

Pick Hide.me if you need a fixed IP address on the basic plan, accepting a device cap and a higher monthly price than Surfshark. A router owner can live with NordVPN and its cap, since one router takes one slot, though its 4.4-star rating sits under Surfshark's.
